Ms. Monica Williams

Why Teach?

Hello, I would like to introduce myself as the Kindergarten teacher at The Gloria S. Friend Christian Academy. My name is Monica Williams and I've been teaching at The Academy going on six years. Education and Christianity are both important to me. I relay this fact to my students by explaining and modeling how important it is to have a relationship with God and education.
I thank God for the experience here at The Gloria S. Friend Christian Academy. The experience here has definitely been life altering, and rewarding. Working for God with the students has given me purpose and meaning. I have worked with children since my pre-teen years. I've enjoyed the energy, imagination, and love that children possess. Their spirit is infectious and so innocent. I love that God has given me the gift to teach.

My Philosophy of Education

I provide a loving, caring, and safe environment for students to learn. I believe all students can learn. As an educator, it is my responsibility to meet all students where they are and guide them to academic success. Christian teachings, love, and values are essential to productive, contributing, citizens.

My Classroom

Kindergarten is a fundamental period in a child's life. The kindergarten curriculum is the foundation of the child's educational career. I take my role in each student's life very serious. I make sure my students feel important by making sure the environment is safe and loving. I encourage growth in my students by allowing them to display their independence with responsibility in the classroom. I also encourage my students to express their feeling in a non-violent, respectful manner.

Kindergarten skills are building blocks and stepping-stones for higher-level skills needed for further grades. Therefore, I design my classroom and expectations according to state standards and benchmarks. I also understand that all students are different and they do not learn the same way. I make sure to incorporate various learning and teaching strategies when creating and planning lessons and activities. I begin the school year with lots of modeling and guided practice. Once the skills have been taught and practiced in adequate time; I express and expect the students to perform the task independently. I allow time for assessment, reflection, and re-teach of a skill if necessary.

The classroom daily schedule is structured and followed rigorously. My goal is to keep the students engaged at all times. In kindergarten, parental involvement is also significant. I am available to parents though letters, conferences, weekly newsletters, and a behavior chart in the students folder. I encourage and welcome parental support in all aspects of their child's educational career.

God Has Great Plans For You!
